- What does BTA stand for?
BTA stands for Biological Terrain Assessment.
This test can help detect the presence of biochemical influences, which may create an
environment where fungi, viruses and allergic sensitivities to xenobiotics (environmental
poisons) may reside. Although it does not diagnose a specific condition or disease
process, it does provide extremely valuable information about the underlying biochemistry
or Biological Terrain of your body.
- What is BTA Testing?
Biological Terrain Assessment is a computerized analysis of blood, saliva and urine specimens
which provides your health care practitioner with the information needed to create a health
and wellness program designed specifically for you. This program may include nutritional
counseling, vitamin and mineral supplements, homeopathic products, herbs, or exercise
recommendations based on your body and your individual biochemistry.

- What can I expect with the BTA test?
The BTA test is a quick, easy, in-office assessment of your blood, saliva and urine.
After a 12-14 hour fast, you will collect your first morning urine, which you will bring
to the office of the health care practitioner. Upon arrival at the office, a small
sample of venous blood is drawn and a saliva sample is obtained. (Patients are advised
to avoid the use of toothpaste, mouthwash or lipstick, which can alter the chemistry of the
mouth.) These samples are then tested with the BTA.
- How will BTA testing and balancing benefit me?
A BTA analysis provides a wealth of information about your internal biochemistry.
You will find out, for example, if your system is too acidic or too alkaline for optimum health,
and whether digestion and absorption of vitamins, minerals and nutrients are occurring properly.
The BTA test can also alert your health care practitioner to the presence of damaging
environmental or industrial contaminants, substances that can prove very damaging to your body’s
delicate biochemistry.
You will find out the degree of oxidative damage present in your system. Stress, poor air
quality, food lacking in nutritional value, and lack of aerobic exercise often result in
oxidative stress or damage—damage that makes the body more susceptible to illness, disease,
degeneration, and premature aging.
The gross mineral concentration of your test samples is also an important indicator of optimum
health. If minerals are deficient, enzymatic reactions cannot occur properly.
Conversely, an elevation of minerals may result in congestion and stagnation of vital, dynamic
bodily fluids.

- How does this differ from regular medical treatment?
BTA testing and balancing does not take the place of qualified medical diagnosis and treatment.
You are responsible for your own medical needs and must determine which type of medical
care is best for you.
Conventional medicine is exceptionally effective in health crisis management and in
diagnosing disease and in prescribing medication that will diminish symptoms.
BTA testing is a way to address patient concerns that don’t show up
in other tests. It is helpful for patients who want to improve their general health as
well as those with chronic problems that lack a specific diagnosis or that have not
responded to other treatment.
- Will this procedure cure me of disease?
Biological Terrain Assessment is not a diagnostic tool. The primary purpose of this
system is to provide measurements of your internal biochemistry. It is not meant to
make a medical diagnosis or replace medical intervention.
The purpose of using BTA testing is to narrow down the huge number of choices (of products)
that will support your body in functioning at a healthier level. When your body
functions at a healthier level, you will be better able to cope with the challenge of
disease. In this way, cure is enhanced.

- How often do I need to have BTA testing done?
Each individual should be tested as frequently as is deemed necessary by the primary care
provider. The greater the variances from optimal values, the more frequently a re-test
might be considered. The Terrain can show remarkable changes in a short period of time.
- Should I discontinue supplements before testing?
Nutritional supplements should be discontinued 48 hours prior to testing.
- What if I am on medication which I can not safely discontinue?
In this case, the medication has probably been taken long enough that it can be considered
a part of your "biological terrain." It would never be advisable to discontinue
your medication if it would put you at any kind of risk.
- How old must a patient be to have a BTA test?
A patient can be tested at any age, as long as it is possible to obtain the biological sample.
- Who would benefit from this the most? When is it too late?
It's almost never too late, however, the sooner you begin, the more benefits you derive from an improved quality of life. The people who benefit most are those who are motivated to stay healthy in their later years. It's not just for seniors or retirees. Just as you save for retirement with pensions and the like, this is preventive geriatrics.
